LPIC-1 Exam 101-500 Practice Tests: 200 Questions Explained

Course Details
Booked your LPIC-1 101 exam, or thinking about it? Then you'll want to know two things: which objectives you already own, and which ones still trip you up. That's what these practice tests are for.
You get four tests with 50 questions each, written for the current LPIC-1 exam 101-500 (objectives version 5.0):
- Test 1 - System Architecture, Installation and Package Management (topics 101 and 102): hardware and the kernel's view of it, the boot process, systemd targets, disk layout, GRUB 2, shared libraries, dpkg and apt, rpm and dnf/yum, and Linux as a virtual machine or cloud guest.
- Test 2 - GNU and Unix Commands (topic 103): the shell, text filters, file management, redirection and pipes, processes and priorities, regular expressions and vi.
- Test 3 - Devices, Filesystems and the FHS (topic 104): partitions and filesystems, fsck and friends, mounting and /etc/fstab, permissions and special bits, links, and finding files the right way.
- Test 4 - Full mock exam: 50 mixed questions across all objectives, weighted like the real exam, with a time limit, so you can check your pace before the day.
Every question tells you why the right answer is right and why each wrong answer is wrong. That second part is where most of the learning happens: you see the exact option or file you mixed up, and why it doesn't do what you thought. Each question also names the public LPI objective it tests (for example "103.4 Use streams, pipes and redirects"), so a weak score points you straight at the objective to revise.
The questions are practical. You're the admin: a server won't boot to the right target, a package owns a file you need, a script's output has to go to a log, a shared directory needs the right bits. You pick the command or file that does the job.
A word on what these tests are not. They're original questions written for this course. They aren't questions from the real exam, and they don't promise any score on it. The real exam (60 questions, 90 minutes) also has fill-in-the-blank questions, which these multiple-choice tests can't reproduce, so practise typing commands and file paths from memory as well.
When you're getting 80% or more on all four tests, and you understand the explanations of the ones you missed, you're in a good place to book the exam.
